RELATION BETWEEN ELECTROGRAPHIC SEIZURES DETECTED BY AMPLITUDE-INTEGRATED EEG AND SHORT-TERM OUTCOMES AFTER TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY IN CHILDREN

نویسندگان

چکیده

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children. After TBI, the vulnerable to additional injuries (secondary injuries) because disrupts normal autoregulatory defense mechanisms. These secondary play crucial role patient prognosis. Posttraumatic seizures are an important leading further damage injured brain. Continuous monitoring by electroencephalography (EEG) can detect both clinical subclinical seizure. This will lead early treatment prevention damage.

Postneonatal epilepsy following amplitude-integrated EEG-detected neonatal seizures.

To assess the incidence of postneonatal epilepsy in term infants treated with antiepileptic drugs for neonatal seizure discharges that were detected with amplitude-integrated electroencephalography (aEEG), 206 term infants were monitored using this modality. They received antiepileptic drugs for clinical as well as subclinical neonatal seizures. Follow-up data were analyzed for the development ...

A prospective study of short- and long-term outcomes after traumatic brain injury in children: behavior and achievement.

Longitudinal behavior and achievement outcomes of traumatic brain injury (TBI) were investigated in 53 children with severe TBI, 56 children with moderate TBI, and 80 children with orthopedic injuries not involving brain insult. Measures of preinjury child and family status and of postinjury achievement skills were administered shortly after injury. Assessments were repeated 3 times across a me...

The Effects of Estrogen Receptors' Antagonist on Brain Edema, Intracranial Pressure and Neurological Outcomes after Traumatic Brain Injury in Rat

Background: In previous studies, the neuroprotective effect of 17&beta-estradiol in diffuse traumatic brain injury has been shown. This study used ICI 182,780, a non-selective estrogen receptor antagonist, to test the hypothesis that the neuroprotective effect of 17&beta-estradiol in traumatic brain injury is mediated by the estrogen receptors. Methods: The ovariectomized rats were divided into...

Short-Term Effects of Phenobarbitone on Electrographic Seizures in Neonates

BACKGROUND Phenobarbitone is the most common first-line anti-seizure drug and is effective in approximately 50% of all neonatal seizures. OBJECTIVE To describe the response of electrographic seizures to the administration of intravenous phenobarbitone in neonates using seizure burden analysis techniques. METHODS Multi-channel conventional EEG, reviewed by experts, was used to determine the ...
